Balancing Relationships

We (N and I) used to do everything together. When in a bus and couldn’t read especially in the evenings when the mates switched off the scanty light after collecting their fares. N and I had our moments, played games among other things and usually during those times we were inseparable I would say; but that changed when BB got to the scene.

You see I am always finding new things on my BB and as hard as I try, I don’t succeed in ignoring the pings and pongs and all the alerts that comes with it. I must say during the earlier weeks when I got BB, I noticed my sleep suffered because of all the alerts, until I made changes to save me some sleep.
I treat BB special, and she deserves to be treated that way, she is sophisticated and obviously got more buttons than N but she comes with cost and maintenance too, that makes the adage “all that glitters is not gold” comes to mind. As much as  BB makes me stay abreast with the fast pacing world and as much as I like the “power and connectivity” BB gives me, I feel N and I have some history together that BB with all the glittering should not be able to disrupt our relationship.
BB

We all have friends and people who have our backs and help us maintain our sanity in this perverted insane world, people we share silly jokes with, laugh with over everything and nothing at all and whose shoulder’s are ever ready to comfort us when in pain. Then out of the blue you meet this person who is the air of freshness itself, the epitome of your fantasy, something wild and fun, and your loyal friends are relegated to the shadows, blinded by this new light you don’t realize your relationship with loyal friends suffer until  the blood boiling passion of the newness fades away. Reality knocks you hard out of your slumber and you realize that though this new person has all the buttons to make you swell, it’s not worth hurting the one person/people who have been there for you and kept you warm when the world turned cold on you. You realize you share memories all the alerts and pings can’t erase.
Now that was the kind of relationship I had with my N, before the advent of BB. It’s a déjà vu, happens with any new gadgets I get. So I’m now trying to make N less jealous by spending time with it when I can, my wake-up call to save the relationships I have with friends who have been relegated to the background because of distance, work, or just for the sake of it.

  2. Yes BB has been hyped, maybe it's because of it's business-like look. Due to the availability of other options now, the hype may be declining soon if it has not began already
